Both have a role. Primary care manages blood pressure, cholesterol and risk factors and monitors you over time. A cardiologist handles diagnosis and treatment of specific heart disease. We manage the first and refer for the second, then coordinate between the two.
If your blood pressure is elevated or you are on medication for it, expect to be seen every three to six months, and more often after a medication change. If your readings are normal, an annual check is usually enough.
